In 1995, Shri Mataji was part of UN’s Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. The following is an excerpt from her speech.
Like a calm lake with no ripples that reflects the beauty of the landscape around it, a silent mind reflects the beauty of the creation
Formless yet complete, existing before heaven and earth. Silent and limitless, alone and unchanging. Pervading everywhere, yet untiring. It is the Mother of all things under heaven. I do not know its name so I call it ‘Tao’
Despite all its popularity, very few of us truly know what meditation actually is. Some see meditation as mental concentration while others believe that we meditate when we imagine something that gives us peace or satisfaction. Regardless, almost everyone can agree that the ultimate goal of meditation is to reach a moment of peace and quiet. A temporary end to incessant activity of our minds.
In many religions and spiritual traditions, there are some stories, legends and myths that don’t exactly follow our rationality but that doesn’t mean that we should dismiss them completely. If God is the infinite, we simply cannot comprehend it with our limited mental and emotional capacity. Until our awareness is evolved to a higher state, these stories and legends are our only way of getting a glimpse of the nature of God.
